Another Ethical Blur
POTTSTOWN, PA – Just a little follow up thought on Vernoika White’s op-ed letter which appeared in yesterday’s Mercury.
In 2007, Tom Hylton (through the guise of his Pottstown Citizens for “Irresponsible” Government PAC) spent close to $7K in 2007 to get his “Neighborhood Schools Team” elected (and that $7K was referenced in campaign reporting documents filed with Montgomery County…so the actual $7K figure could have been higher, as there most likely was a lot more money spent that went unreported). One of the “team members” elected in 2007 who benefited from Hylton’s full coffers was none other than Nat White, Veronika’s husband.
You can read about all that fun in our previously published Hylton and His Friends of Montgomery County post.
So, basically, Nat White received campaign funds from Hylton. No problem with that. But, as an ethical courtesy, Veronika really should disclose the fact that she is the spouse of a current board member…especially since that current board member (her spouse) received campaign funds from Tom Hylton to get elected.
As we pointed out yesterday, Veronika White has a long history of submitting pro-Hylton letters to The Mercury…and never once has she identified herself as the spouse of a current elected official who received campaign money from Hylton.
While Veronika White is certainly welcome to express her personal opinions in The Mercury, she really ought to disclose the fact that her husband financially benefited from Tom Hylton and his fat-cat PAC.
Just another ethical hoop merrily skipped through by Team Hylton.

I have to say that I am disappointed with the Whites. I had a phone conversation with Mrs.White last year and she assured me that her husband was opposed to tax increases of any type, especially during hard economic times. Mr.White voted against tax increasing budgets several times, I believe that he was also against the last elementary school plan that last years board was developing due to the cost.
To have Mr.White change directions after Mr.Hylton was elected baffled me. perhaps Mr.White does not feel the economic pain that most do in this town, since he lives in Rosedale tax increases must not bother him.
Shame on both Mr.and Mrs.White, I expected better of you.
You know…it’s kind of funny, really, about the tax increases and the Whites. Being at a higher assessment than the ‘average’ homeowner they have a larger portion of the pie AND their %age increases are bigger, too!
google: montgomery county property assessments visit the site you can search by name and get a glimpse into some of your ‘favorite’ people and their tax assessments…HAVE FUN!!!!
Then you can see with your own eyes and wonder if you are having trouble how they don’t; just what makes them so impervious to tax burden??? I must say, having a rental property probably allows you a certain amount of freedom to not care what increases the rest of the community bears…
Did all you happy readers know Mr. Hylton has a rental property right next door to his home; now you do!!
jwl…how can we even be certain Mrs. White did it in Pottstown with pen & paper (Clue reference)? Her liitle ditty sounds like tired old tree hugging trash, that’s just my opinion. Then again, maybe Mrs. White writes for the Mr.??? This theory is based on the fact that when not speaking from a prepared statment Mr. White sounds like he’s lost, most of the time.
Why do people feel that omission of truth isn’t the same as not telling it…it’s a sticky wicket, isn’t it?!?! There is no room for politics in a SB, it should be people wishing to better the SD and serve the taxpayers and I am seeing so little of that.
