The “Smart-Growth Leader” Speaketh
What is this bill of goods and who is doing the peddling?
The bill of goods is not quite that…in fact…it’s just the opposite. A better description would be sack of BS. The peddler is none other than the so-called “smart-growth leader” himself, Pottstown activist and political hack Thomas Hylton.
At 7:00 p.m. this evening at the Hershey Public Library, Hylton will attempt to con the hard working folks of Derry Township into believing his outdated and misleading shtick as the township citizens kick-off their comprehensive plan survey (“Your Vision for Derry Township”).
And just what kind of BS do you think Hylton will be telling those attending?
Maybe he’ll be discussing about how his ideas and plans for Pottstown over the past 35+ years has transformed the borough into another Manayunk.
Maybe he’ll talk about how he single-handedly rewrote Pottstown’s zoning ordinance ten years ago and how it ushered in a new economic boon to the borough, drawing in new businesses and new middle class owner occupying residents.
Maybe he’ll share with Derry Township citizens how Pottstown can afford five 40+ year old elementary schools even though the Pottstown School District is designated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education as a High Tax / High Poverty school district.
Maybe he’ll reveal how much money the Pottstown School District has saved in busing costs by having so-called walkable elementary schools.
Maybe he’ll share with the audience how he and his retired Pottstown School District wife Frances have spent tens of thousands of dollars through their fringe Pottstown Citizens for Responsible Government political action committee to get ethically unsavory candidates elected to public office in Pottstown in order to push through his 1950s mad scientist schemes (and exactly what positive growth does Pottstown have to show for that?).
Maybe he’ll mention how he got kicked off the Pottstown Planning Commission AND got his Shade Tree Commission cut down within a mere six months of each other.
And don’t forget…according to the Derry Township press release…he’ll also tell the crowd how “to make a community the best that it can be.” Because doesn’t everyone know that Tom Hylton knows first hand how to make towns like Pottstown the best they can be?
Seriously. The only way that Tom Hylton can make Pottstown the best community it can be is by him moving out of town.
P.S. – A big thank you goes out to Derry Township and Dauphin County for securing a grant to cover Tom Hylton’s speaking fee. You’ve now given him more pocket change to use for his dirty marketing mailers and media propaganda for the upcoming November election. Next time please do some due diligence before hiring a speaker…and JUST SAY NO to Tom Hylton and his pack of lies.
