POTTSTOWN, PA – One of the more truly sad articles we recently read was posted by our good friends over at Golden Cockroach on December 1.
Long time Pottstown resident and community advocate Jeff Leflar has moved to greener pastures beyond the borough line. Jeff is a very caring and concerned individual who served and supported Pottstown since moving to his Queen Street home 25 years ago. He was a frequent reader and commenter to this site and we appreciated his zest and zeal to make a difference in Pottstown. He and his public service will be missed.
So…what does Jeff get for all of his hard work in Pottstown as he prepares a move out of state? A Thanks-For-Nothing code violation for an issue that, really, should have been a no-brainer for the no-brainers in council chambers to correct.
If you haven’t already, please take the time to read Golden Cockroach’s post:
Here’s Your Codes Violation, Thanks For 25 Years and All the Good Deeds…
Why do we, as taxpayers, tolerate garbage like this in Pottstown? Why do we tolerate this kind of unprofessional behavior towards folks who are out there doing their best to make a positive contribution to our community? Why do those occupying the ivory public servant towers of 100 East High Street think it’s okay to beat down on the hardworking citizen backbone of this community, while turning a blind eye to the true trash of this town….the greedy slumlords who have destroyed our housing stock with their shady tenants and corrupt business practices?
Why do the public servants of Pottstown not serve the public? In fact…they serve the public quite badly. Are we missing something here?
Do the public servants of Pottstown only serve former U.S. presidents and founding fathers…and larger denominations?
How do we fix this very broken system folks? Are we going to see real change from our new borough manager…an individual who has been a public servant of Pottstown for more than 33 years? We bet that when Mark Flanders started patrolling the streets of Pottstown back in April of 1979 the town was much better off than it is today.
When Patrolman Flanders was walking the streets of Pottstown did he ever see anything as disgusting and disturbing as these photos? And if he did (which we highly doubt)…what would he have done to correct the problem? Because there’s no way on earth you can convince us that Pottstown’s slumlord problem was worse than when now Borough Manager Flanders started his public service career in Pottstown way back in 1979.
Which brings us back to our original quandary…how will the new Borough Manager and his staff service hardworking taxpayers like ourselves? Will service to those who foot the bill for the salaries in borough hall continue to nosedive? Will we continue to be treated like second-class citizens compared to the almighty buck and the slumlords who dangle them like carrots?
We’d like to put on our happy faces and expect that real change will happen with the new borough manager…but when a 33+ year Pottstown career public servant is hired…you already know what you’re going to get…
