Code Cracking

Cracking Codes!POTTSTOWN, PA – Seven weeks and counting. That’s how late the 10 week review of the Pottstown Codes Department is. To quote Gomer Pyle, the poster boy of Pottstown government, “Surprise surprise surprise!”

Geez…if we were that late paying our astronomical Pottstown water bill…our water would have been shut off nine weeks, six days, and 23 hours ago.

Back in October, career Pottstown public servant Mark Flanders (then the interim Borough Manager) told borough council that the engineering firm of Remington, Vernick and Beach (RVB) would have its $33,000 unbudgeted review of the Pottstown Codes Department done in 10 weeks. 10 weeks ended on December 31. Ooopsie Mark! Maybe Flanders needs to get his plain clothes police posse to rough up RVB (like they do to concerned taxpayers during council meetings).

Speaking of the Codes Department…it’s interesting to note that with Monday night’s council approval of a one-year extension of the AFSCME contract, borough code enforcement officers were omitted from that contract.

Hmmm. The plot thickens!

What kind of secret code shenanigans are going on at borough hall? Maybe borough hall should hire a certain Pottstown school board director who has lots of personal experience exposing (and orchestrating) secrecy in local government.

When specifically asked about the status of the County’s grand jury investigation of Pottstown’s Codes Department during Monday night’s lackluster “Conversations With Your Commissioners” meeting…out of touch FOMF (Friend of Mark Flanders) Bruce Castor gave a one word response (and it didn’t even involve extending a finger!). Mum’s the word Bruce! Delaying and obstructing an overhaul of the Pottstown Codes Department surely doesn’t look good on the resume of a wanna-be governor, does it? Didn’t some schlep say that Montgomery County is Pottstown’s best friend? With friends like Montgomery County…who needs enemies?

So, what’s the deal with the review of the Codes Department? When can we expect some action and results on overhauling the department? Since the report is 10 weeks late does that mean we get it for free?

See? We told you. Pottstown Borough Council had a pick of excellent national candidates for the Borough Manager position. And who did they unanimously hire? A 33 year Pottstown public servant with no vision, no follow through, and no cojones.

Wonderful.

The grand jury was not initiated for the Codes Department, it became a side bar from another investigation. Let’s keep the facts in order as you have in the past.

Maybe the said posse was there to keep the panhandlers away. Such a negative outlook like this is what keeps this town down. If all the naysayers would use their negative energy to make some poitive change instead of throwing stones from glass houses.

loudouche the naysayer throws stones at the “naysayers” that a good one. It’s residents tax money that pays for the clown posse to guard flounders, why? He’s too elite to grovel with the panhandlers like the rest of the people that live here? Your comment, imho, hints that you’re on the borough payroll so it’s a fair guess that your glass house isn’t even located in pottstown, am I right asshat?
